Haunted Houses & Race Running

Soooo, I went running...okay jogging.....okay, okay; walking/jogging this past Sunday at the park close to my house and since the weather has finally changed and we no longer have 100 degree heat, it was beautiful. I also figured it's about time I start training for my 4th half mary coming up in January.

It was my first time going to this particular park and I got there super early, about 6:30am, so I could get my 4 miles done in time to get ready for church. It was just me and the ducks, fog and absolute quiet!

Anyway; the park is really nice; I think this is my new fave track. Sorry old favorite park.

So, there is this house(?) at the park that is supposed to be some type of monument of something (IDK). I'll have to go back and look at what the sign says.

It was kinda scary. Only because I went all the way up to the front gate. It was open so I figured, hey, I'll go inside the gate. And then I ended up going up the stairs to the front porch. And then I looked into the window. It was eerie; a couple of chairs and a table and some frames hanging on the wall. And then I put my hand on the door knob and turned it....thank goodness it was locked! And then I remembered every horror flick I have ever seen where people wander into houses they have no business being in and they end up being eaten by some backwater inbred family or being killed by somebody's spirit that died in the house 200 years ago. LOL. You get my point. I got outta there fast!

I think I've been watching too much FX and too much Criminal Minds!

TeamCAC on Etsy a.k.a MY FAM!!

Wow....3 days in a row; am doing the 'MOST' with this blogging thing as my 'hairspiration' Catho would say!

I HAD to blog today to say how I much I have fallen in LOVE!
Ok...before any one goes off planning the bridal shower (I know for a fact that there are several of you wondering if/when that is ever going to happen..LOL); I am in love with my Etsy team.

TeamCAC stands for Team Christian Artists and Crafters. If you are familiar with Etsy; you know Etsy has tons of teams that you can join. There are teams based on location, types of craft, and almost everything else you can think of; faith based teams, even teams based on zombie-lovers (IDK...check it out and see for your self). When I first started selling; I didn't want to join a team cos I didn't want to have to log on everyday and keep up with the team....Yes; I am a bit anti-social at times.

But let me tell you; this team has been such a blessing to me in the 3 (?) short months I have been a part of it. They are like my other family; a place where I can share and there is no judgement, no rejection, only sound advice and prayer!

So what brought this whole TeamCAC rave on? Well; the last few days have been a little bit difficult for me; in a couple of ways. And you know how you just need something, just a lil something to make your day a lil better? Well all this week; I have received messages, encouragement in one form or the other from members of this team. Mind you; this started this week even though I had not shared anything with them at the time.

I have to say though that it's all God! He has a way of providing just what we need when we need it. I am extremely grateful to be a part of this team & now I understand why some people on the team don't have active shops on Etsy; yet they log on and participate anyway.

Not only are these people of God who lift one another up; they are some crazy-skilled-creative people!! Maybe I'll do a post with my fave items from TeamCAC members but first I need to do a treasury on etsy first!

God is good y'all!! : )
I LOVE my TeamCAC

Nzuri Natural Hair Health & Beauty Showcase

I am super excited about this show coming up on Nov. 27th, 2010. I don't think there has been a natural hair show of this type in H-Town (as far as I know).  I signed up to be a vendor and can only imagine the exposure this will bring TatusWelle. I am especially excited because one of the my inspirations for creating hair accessories is my natural hair and all the women out there who rock their natural hair! : )

I am really hoping & praying I sell quite a few items; especially so I can shop some of the fabulous vendors who will be there. LOL.

If you are natural, transitioning, thinking about going natural or even if you are still on that 'creamy crack'...LOL, there will be something for everyone. They will have classes, information sessions, competitions, and of course lots of amazing vendors and products. If you are a small business owner especially those with natural hair products, accesories, etc, you definitely want to be there.

The event is hosted by the Natural Health Hair Society. You can get more details on the event website http://naturalhairshowcase.weebly.com/. Vendors can sign up here http://nzuri2.eventbrite.com/

I am sooo excited and can't wait for this event.

Peace & Blessings,

New Fave - Minty, Soothing Lip Balm

Soooo I have a few new things that I think are quickly becoming faves....

I had a doctor's appointment last week and after almost getting in an accident on the freeway (why in the world would anyone carry a tank/water heater or whatever the heck that thing was in the back of their truck without tying it down is beyond me) & getting what my doc described as 'not good and not bad' news; I needed  a lil pick me up. So after I got on my knees and gave thanks to my father Jehovah for sparing me from that accident,  I went to Bath & Body Works. I wanted to smell something nice to lift my spirits : )

I found and immediately fell in love with this lip gloss shine balm. This thing is the business y'all. I love it! This will definitely be a stocking stuffer this xmas!! : )  So if you've been nice, Santa just might bring you something to make your smacker shiny and soft. LOL.

C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine

Ooo lalala... Butter Scotch. Cant wait to try this!

This is the one I got. Holiday Short Bread
Here's the description for the Holiday Shortbread on the website;
Treat your lips to a delicious new flavor that will remind you of one of your favorite winter treats. C.O. Bigelow Mentha Holiday Shortbread combines the high shine and breath-freshening benefits of Mentha Lip Shine with the delicious flavor of a warm cookie right from the oven.

How could you not want to put that on your lips?? : ))))
Let me tell you; when I put on lip balm its off before you can say 'pucker up'. Hmm...so; nothing stays on my lips for long. Well; I put on this balm at say 7am this morning and it's 3pm now and my lips are still moisturized and feeling quite soft and luscious... ; )
Apple Cider
Seriously though; this is definitely a fave now. Another good lip balm that 'keeps' at least for a while is surprisingly, this Carmex (which I usually can't stand) one that I found at Walgreens. I am not one to spend $13 on a lip balm that will wipe off so I haven't tried some of the pricier brands. And remember; I am not talking gloss; am talking balm; something that soothes, moisturizes and will last.

Caremex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balp SPF 15 Sheer Peach Tint.
It also comes with no color and with a Pink Tint. This is a really good 'cheapie' lip balm.

Well; those are 2 of my fave things. That's all folks : )

A Fair To Remember + Other Happenings

Soooo..... I haven't been here since what feels like ages.
Busy! Busy! Busy!

I did take part in the craft fair I talked about in a previous post and I am pretty satisfied with how things went.

Thought I'd come on really quick to post a few pics from the fair.  I didn't take many pics cos I totally forgot about doing that. I sold some really cool hair accessories that I wish I'd photographed. It's all good though.

I made 6 sales and 1 swap and think that was not too too bad for my first craft fair EVER!!

The fair was a learning experience; I met some really cool, some really crazy and some just plain weird people but all in all; it was a good experience ; )

And my girl Vivalicious came by to show love and support and she and her sister made my day! Am sad I forgot to get a pic with them at the fair.

Ok; for some reason blogspot won't let me upload any pics : (
Guess I'll be back later!!!

Here are the pics! Managed to upload these and now it won't let me do anymore. Oh well....

1:38AM Fabric Update

It's 1:38 a.m and I can't sleep. I had a long, hard work out today! Quick run on the treadmill, 1 hour step class and 1 hour yoga. That's typical for my Saturday workouts though, except the run.

Anyway; I took a looonnng nap this evening and now am up and wide awake.
I have some fab new African Wax Print fabrics I am working with. BTW; my sewing nook is a MESS! I should post a pic of it...hehehehe and maybe do an after pic once I tidy up!

I am working on skirts and other items that will really show off the beautiful patterns on these prints

This first one is a gorgeous purple, black and gold print. I have one skirt made from this so far.........It reminds me of a honeycomb. I am also thinking long, maxi length kaftan with gold embroidery. Check out a caftan I wore to a friend's traditional marriage cermenony here http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/black-gold-caftan?image=119466

I call this one; magnify the world : )

And then there's this one; one of my faves! My sister already requested a tunic made out of this. I was supposed to do that this weekend along with the skirt I promised to make her....oops : ). Oh well; the weekends isn't over yet!

Here's another one I really like. We'll call it cobwebs or spidey eye? LOL. It kinda has an eye shaped thing going on with the cobweb inside it..........LOL

And then there's this! If you are Nigerian; you MUST remember this print or something similar to it! It is a reprint of a similar pattern that was very popular in hollandaise (I think) wrapper back in the 80s and maybe 90s among Nigerian women. I LOVE this; it has such a nostalgic feel for me and I am not sure what I want to do with it yet.

Peace & Blessings!!

Craft Fair and Hair Flowers

Sooo.....the last few weeks have been super busy for me.
I am sooo excited!! I signed up to be a vendor at a craft fair. A week later I am super nervous and wondering what I was thinking. Oh well....can't get out of it now so I guess the only thing left to do is be excited. Oh and prepare. : )

I joined the houstonartteam on etsy and found out about the fair through the group's blog http://www.artisansofhouston.blogspot.com/.
I figure why not give it a try and see how it goes. All towards getting my stuff out there. Like they say; you want new results, try new things...or something like that..LOL

I have been sewing every night since Monday and am slowly making progress.
Pics of new items to come soon : ).

New items?? I just realized I don't have ANY pics of TatusWelle items on this blog.  : (
Seriously..........I need to get it TOGETHER!! Also need to add some pics to my facebook page www.facebook.com/TatusWelle

So here we go. These are a few items currently listed on http://www.tatuswelle.etsy.com/
I have soo many ideas and so little time!!! All the flowers below are made from 100% African Wax Print Fabric. I will be adding new items daily from now through November when I will be a vendor at another fair/show. More to come on that later.

This brooch/pin is my personal favorite currently. I sold one to a lady in Australia. How cool is that? Someone in Perth is wearing my brooch!!!!!

I am still working on taking better pictures so I have been experimenting with different settings on my camera. It's all so confusing at times; too many settings!!

I made a tote bag from this fabric over a year ago. It serves as my 'saturday gym/errand running bag' and I always get compliments on it. Maybe I'll add totes to the shop!

 Peace & Blessings!!!

Favorites

So, summer is gone oh so soon. I think I will add a few of my fave things to this blog as I go along!

***Favorite Summer 2010 TV Show***
This show is HILARIOUS!!! Seriously! Bradley Whitford plays Dan Stark, a former big-shot cop whose glory days seem to be over and his partner, Jack Bailey is played by Colin Hanks. Jack tries to play by the rules but Dan always comes up with ways to get them in trouble! Dan is old school, disgusting and extremely annoying - all of which make this show awesome. You gotta see it if you didn't. And the best part? Its set in Dallas, TX. Bwahaha!

This was my fave show of the summer : )

***Favorite Frozen Dinner***
Drum Roll Please...............
LEAN CUISINE Butternut Squash Ravioli

omg...omg...I had to edit this post to add this. This frozen dinner is the business!! Am telling you; it was really, really good yo! lol. Veggies were crisp; Raviola was al dente and the squash filling had just the right sweetness! LOVE this!!

In addition to all the buttery squash goodness; this thing is not too bad on the calories (watch the sodium with frozen dinners though).

BTW; I bought this as part of a HEB meal deal and I am going back today to get the meal deal again and all am buying is this frozen dinner! Wowsa! I love it!

How is this related to my shop? It's not! Consider this practice for when I actually start to post about my shop/inspirations. Well; I guess you could say I am inspired by Dan Stark - to not take life so seriously. LOL

Peace out!

Etsy Treasury

Finding time to create for my shop has not been easy!
Balancing school, work and everything else I have going on has been quite the challenge the last few weeks.

Thing are starting to settle though; my plan is to play catch up this week so I can actually be on the schedule I created at the beginning of the semester!

So while I have not been creating; I have been hanging out in the etsy forums and looking at treasuries. I created my first treasury today and its inspired by.................Africa of cos! lol

Etsy treasuries are pretty cool cos they are created by Etsy users and you can go broke just browsing through all the different things you find! : )

Here's mine:

http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4c97c6e3ef4e6d91c21cb24e/color-me-africa?index=0

That's it for today. Tonight; I study!!

Tomorrow night, we have tix to see SYTYCD! Whooohoooooo. Am excited...not as excited as the person am going with though (she is a SYTYCD fanatic..lol)

See ya!

Oh.........I did make a new skirt that I absolutely LOOOVEEE  and plan to add to the shop soon. Pics to come..........................

Keeping Up? Not So Much!!

Didn't I say I have a hard time keeping up with writing?
I sure did. I wrote that first post and then completely forgot I started a blog.....sigh.
I remembered today though and this counts as my second post even though there is nothing related to my inspirations or my shop or my creations in it. HA!

Ok...Ok...I'll throw in a pic. That should count as something that inspires me today.
It's Gabourey Sidibe on the cover of Elle. I think it is a big deal; more grease to her elbows!

P.S: For today; I am ignoring all the controversy around the picture being lightened or whether it shoulda been a full picture like the other models (it's always something huh?)

TatusWelle is now a Blogger : )

Sooo, I decided to start a blog to go with my Etsy shop and my new facebook page www.facebook.com/tatuswelle

I really don't know what the heck am doing but we'll see how this goes. Especially since I lose interest in things so quickly & have a hard time keeping up with ANYTHING that requires writing on a regular basis! LOL

So here is to hoping I can keep up with this blogging thing : )

The main idea is to blog about my creations as I add new items to my shop; www.tatuswelle.etsy.com, things, people, events and anything else that inspires or interests me.

Welcome to my attempt at creativity!

Peace & Blessings,
TatusWelle <3
